Planning
The planning grid is a budget and forecast in the page. Accounts, cost centres or products run down the side as a tree; months run across, grouped into quarters, with quarter and year totals. Budget, Forecast, Actual and scenarios are versions of the same plan, and any two can be compared cell by cell.
Type a month, or type a quarter's, a year's or a group's total and it is spread over the cells below it — in proportion, evenly, by a seasonal profile or the same in each — with held cells, closed months and signed-off rows left alone and the total exact after rounding. Formula rows use the library's spreadsheet formulas. Every change is handed to your page as the cells that changed.
An operating plan
A software company's year: actuals to September, a forecast for the last quarter, compared with the budget. Type into October to December, type a quarter's total to spread it, try +10%, or open What if to try changes before keeping them. Rent is locked and Marketing has been submitted for sign-off, so neither can be typed over.

Spreading a target
Next year's sales start as a copy of this year's. Set the year's target and it is spread across the channels and months in proportion to what is there; spread it again by the seasonal profile instead; hold March's retail figure first and the spreading works round it. The cells that changed are below, as your page would save them.

Three hundred cost centres
Only the rows and months in view are drawn. This plan has three hundred cost centres of nine accounts each and a ratio row, over three years — over three thousand rows and thirty-six months, with every total worked out.
